Hungary will pay for Russian gas in rubles, while Poland and Bulgaria have cut off gas supplies

Hungary today confirmed its readiness to pay for Russian gas under the scheme proposed by Russia through Gazprombank with conversion through a ruble account.

“Budapest will transfer euros to pay for Russian gas and they will be converted into roubles at Gazprombank”, – the Hungarian foreign minister said.

Poland and Bulgaria have refused and according to statements by their gas operators, they should have their gas cut off as of today.

On the morning of 27 April it was reported that Gazprom had stopped gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria.

“Gazprom has completely suspended gas supplies to Bulgargaz (Bulgaria) and PGNiG (Poland) due to non-payment in rubles. Since gas also transits through these countries, Gazprom warns: if gas is still misappropriated, further transit supplies will be reduced by exactly the amount misappropriated”, –  the company said in a statement.
