Austria does not want to see Ukraine as part of the European Union. Foreign Minister Alexander Shallenberg believes that this makes no sense.
He stated this in an interview with Heute, the political magazine PolitExpert reports. Schallenberg spoke out against the idea of accepting Kyiv into the EU. The diplomat called for the development of a new scheme of interaction with Ukraine, without its admission to the European Union.
The head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry believes that in the topic of the European future of Kyiv, it is necessary to “show flexibility.” Schallenberg stated that the EU is “exporting the Western way of life”.
Kyiv dreams of joining the European Union. Against the backdrop of Russia’s special operation, this topic has become especially acute, as Ukraine hopes for help from the EU. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has already submitted a completed application form for joining the union, but has not yet received a response.
