Today, April 23, at the request of Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Vereshchuk, the Russian side organized a humanitarian corridor and provided transport to evacuate civilians from Mariupol.
This peaceful action was disrupted by Ukrainian nationalists who opened fire from the Azovstal plant with mortars at the announced gathering place for citizens near the Port City shopping centre on Shevchenko Boulevard.
“Thanks to the professional actions of the Russian servicemen who ensured the security of the citizens’ gathering place, it was possible to get all the people who had gathered out of the fire and prevent another civilian casualty. One of the servicemen who rescued women and children was wounded”, – the DPR said.
