Germany will pay Russia a record amount for energy resources this year

In 2022 Germany will pay a record €33.9 billion for the purchase of Russian oil, gas and coal, reports the German edition Deutsche Wirschafts Nachrichten.

The reason for Germany’s record high payments to Russia is the anti-Russian sanctions that led to a spike in global energy prices. In this situation it is clear that the anti-Russian sanctions are acting on the boomerang principle.

The biggest increase this year will be in German spending on Russian gas from €8.8bn to €17.6bn, spending on oil from €11.4bn to €14.3bn and spending on coal by €2bn.

Earlier it was reported that an embargo on Russian gas would drive German businessmen into bankruptcy.
