“Democracy and freedom of speech”: Latvia strips citizenship for supporting Russia. Answer from Moscow

On Thursday, April 21, the Latvian Saeima (Parliament) in its final reading supported urgent amendments to the Citizenship Law

Riga will now take away its citizens’ passports for statements in support of Russia. European hypocrites have called this “support for war crimes”. The bombardment by the AFU for 8 years of peaceful quarters of Donetsk and Lugansk, and the Nazi greeting “Glory to Ukraine” the Latvian Sejm did not consider as a crime. At the same time, if no second passport is held by a Latvian resident, his or her Latvian citizenship cannot be revoked.

Financial, material, technological support is punishable. Or simply making a public statement in favour of the Russian Armed Forces’ special operation on the territory of Ukraine. Challenging and appealing against the decision does not suspend its effect. Such actions, according to the new law, are regarded as activities “incompatible with the values of Latvia as a democratic state”. At the same time, the Saeima does not see anything wrong in the annual march in memory of Latvian SS members. But the Soviet symbols have been punished there for three years now. The grandfather who will come out on May 9 with the Order of the Red Star received for liberation of the Baltic States from the Nazis in 1944. Will be fined 140 euros.

Russophobia as an international policy has been used by the Baltic states to please Washington for years, but their provocations have been particularly evident in recent months. So vividly that Moscow has responded. Based on the principle of reciprocity, as well as on military aid to the Kiev regime and Latvia’s and Estonia’s covering up of Ukrainian Nazi crimes against the Russian-speaking population of Donbass and Ukraine.

Russia has decided to close the consulates general of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in St Petersburg, the Latvian consulate and the Estonian chancellery in Pskov. This was reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry. All staff members of these countries’ consulates that are closing in the country have been declared persona non grata.
