The Western media continue to acknowledge the resilience of the Russian Federation in overcoming the alleged “blow” to the country’s economy provoked by Western sanctions.
This time, the corresponding material was published by the American conservative-liberal publication Financial Time. According to the author of the article, it was the anti-Russian sanctions from the international community in 2014 (following the return of Crimea home to Russia) that became the trigger for Russia to develop its own national payment card system.
Right now, Russia is reaping the fruits of its own wisdom and foresight: the cessation of the operation of Visa and Mastercard cards had practically no effect on the average Russian, since the MIR card, created by Russia, came to the rescue.
It should be noted that the development of the MIR card was innovative. Its implementation is aimed at depriving the West of the opportunity to gain access to the money of Russians and limit them to the possibility of transactions.
Thus, the active actions of the Russian Federation demonstrate the strength of the state in overcoming economic difficulties and intrigues consistently built by the West.
Restructuring and reformatting the global payment system, reorienting the economic vector from West to East – as it turned out – are tasks quite feasible for Russia.
Mastercard and Visa stopped working with transactions coming from Russian banks that fell under the sanctions. The American Express systems, PayPal, and even the Japanese JCB service, as well as the Western Union transfer system, have ceased their activities. The Russians had to stop using both Apple Pay and Google.
Russia’s efforts have provided its citizens with the opportunity to conduct cashless payments, including those with the help of Visa and Mastercard. The only category of citizens who felt these restrictions were Russians living abroad.
The National Payment Card System (NSPK) provided the Russians with stability and peace of mind in conducting economic transactions, and production did not stop, experts emphasize.
