“Europe has lost its opportunities”: Slovak expert evaluates economic turn of Russian Federation to the East

Russia’s close trade alliance with the countries of the East will deal a crushing economic blow to the entire European community due to the latter’s complete dependence on the United States – such an opinion was expressed by the well-known Slovak expert in the field of political science Eduard Khmelar.

The expert sees the reason for the unenviable position of the EU countries in their own short-sighted policy.

“After the Russian Federation turns its economy towards Asia and breaks all trade ties with European partners, Europe will have to be completely subordinate to the United States. The thing is that the European Union has lost its opportunities”, Khmelar emphasized.

The EU, the expert argues, will be absolutely uncompetitive in the face of Russia’s alliance with India, China, Brazil, Indonesia and other states friendly to the Russian Federation. In addition, the European Union, according to Khmelar, risks losing credibility in the eyes of the world community.

The economic war launched by the West against Russia was intended to strike at the country’s economy and banking sector. Already now, the development of the sixth package of restrictive anti-Russian measures, which may also affect the energy sector, continues.

However, sanctions aimed at destabilizing the Russian economy have already managed to produce a large-scale reverse effect, turning into global problems not only for the EU countries, but also for the States themselves – the population has already faced a rapid rise in prices for gasoline and a grocery basket.
