Germany noted that “Ukraine is the most important supplier of sunflower oil in the world”
Residents of Germany may face a shortage of sunflower oil. This is due to the situation in Ukraine. The Association of Oilseed Producers noted that the country is almost a key supplier.
“Ukraine is the most important supplier of sunflower oil in the world,” said a representative of the German Oilseed Producers Association. More than half of world exports of sunflower oil, he said, come from this Eastern European country. However, due to events in Ukraine, there are significant disruptions in the supply of oil through the Black Sea. “The situation will not improve in the foreseeable future,” the Association stressed.
“We see that prices for sunflower oil have risen sharply,” said Thomas Goeppert, a representative of the industry association of German hospitality and catering companies (Dehoga).
For food producers, the absence of sunflower oil creates difficulties in another respect: the information on the packaging must be reliable.
“Packaging is often done several months in advance, which makes it difficult to adjust quickly, especially since we also have problems with the supply of packaging materials,” a spokesman for the German Federal Food Industry Association said, noting that the situation could be stabilized by “relevant government regulations.”
