German food industry warns of the danger of an embargo on gas supplies from Russia

Guido Zeitler, chairman of the food industry union, emphasizes that the ban on gas supplies from Russia will lead to interruptions in the work of the German food industry.

“Stopping gas supplies would have massive consequences for food producers. In Germany, the food industry is the second largest gas consumer after the chemical industry,” Zeitler said.

He also warned that the shortage of supplies would lead to production disruptions.

“We will not suffer from hunger because of this, but it will lead to large interruptions in production, which will be felt by consumers in stores,” he said.
