Following Russia, the West may try to exclude other countries from the UN Council on Human Rights and turn the Council into “a closed club of real democracies,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin to RIA Novosti.
“Undoubtedly, the desire to ‘cancel’ Russia’s membership in the HRC was an attempt to punish our country for its independent domestic and foreign policies. Obviously, this step by the ‘collective West’ will be followed by similar measures against other sovereign states which do not accept the diktat of the Western world in the field of human rights”, – Vershinin said.
Vershinin believes “it is becoming increasingly clear” that the US and European Union countries “will continue to seek a ‘monopoly’ on the UN human rights track.”
“Their goal is to transform the HRC into a kind of closed club of real democracies, designed to set the rules of the game for the rest of the world, violations of which will be punished ruthlessly”, – said the deputy minister.
