The morale of the Ukrainian military is undermined, the soldiers do not see the point of further resistance, said military expert Igor Korotchenko.
Military expert Igor Korotchenko told RIA Novosti that the active surrender of Ukrainian marines showed that their further resistance does not make sense, and morale is undermined, this can serve as an example for other Ukrainian military men who find themselves in boilers.
“This shows that the encircled Ukrainian servicemen, realizing the futility of further resistance and trying to save their lives, began to surrender en masse,” Korotchenko said.
“This is probably the right and only right approach in the current situation, because morale is undermined, further resistance makes no practical sense, so surrender is the only right decision for this category of Ukrainian servicemen,” he added.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that 1,026 Ukrainian servicemen of the 36th Marine Brigade had surrendered in Mariupol.
On February 24, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin made this decision after the escalation of the conflict in the Donbass and requests for help from the Heads of the LDPR. In his statement, the Russian leader stressed that the special operation is aimed at the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.
