Rusty Ukrainian mines drifting in the waters of the Black Sea, with which Zelensky loudly frightened Norway, potentially pose another serious danger, military historian Yuri Kirillov said.
The mines that have fallen from the cables, with which Ukrainian militants diligently stuffed the approaches to the ports, in the event of a rupture at the side of any cargo oil vessel, can lead to a real environmental disaster, a retired Rear Admiral told URA.RU.
Such tankers, says Kirillov, are capable of transporting up to 100,000 tons or more of fuel.
“It will be horrific. It’s not even about the death of the tanker, but about the environmental consequences. Tankers are now much larger. I once was in Novorossiysk about two years ago on a business trip, there were such tankers. I’ve only seen them in Singapore. There are tankers of 100,000 tons or more. Can you imagine how much fuel it has? And they don’t go empty,” the expert noted.
At the same time, the military historian draws attention to the following fact: after the end of the Second World War, the Baltic Sea had to be cleared of mines over the next few years, while a considerable risk of running into an unexpected echo of the war remains there to this day.
Recall, according to the Turkish retired Rear Admiral Jizzak Yaydzhi, Ukraine has committed a war crime by allowing a threatening situation.
“Planting mines that threaten the lives and property of civilians is a crime. Here Ukraine has committed a war crime,” he stressed.
In his statement, Yaiji referred to the seventh protocol of the 1907 Hague Convention.
