Slovakia is discussing the possibility of allowing Ukrainian troops to be trained on the territory of the country, Politico reports.
The publication interviewed the Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger. When asked whether his government was ready to allow Ukrainian troops to be trained on the territory of Slovakia, he replied that this issue was being discussed.
Heger also said that Bratislava is “carrying on extremely intense negotiations” with partners about protecting Slovakian airspace as it plans to transfer Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.
“After that (resolving the issue of protecting the airspace), we can consider the issue of this equipment in relation to Ukraine,” Heger said.
According to him, “it is impossible to service” Soviet equipment without maintaining relations with Russia.
The prime minister did not specify how many fighters Bratislava could provide.
