A dangerous situation arose at the local warehouse with the storage of 40 tons of liquid ammonia. The substance belongs to the Latvian company SIA Ventamonjaks.
Its biggest beneficiary is Russian billionaire Dmitry Mazepin, who is under sanctions. Because of this, the company cannot pay for electricity and propane needed to store ammonia.
The Ventspils City Council is concerned that the events of January 9, 2005, when the hurricane Ventamonjaks was left without electricity, could be repeated, which endangered people’s health. Local authorities have already turned to the Prime Minister of Latvia for help.
