“There will be no blockade”: experts denied the possibility of paralyzing the Kaliningrad transit

It is not the first day that the Baltic countries intend to paralyze the Kaliningrad transit, says the head of the Association of Baltic Studies of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Mezhevich. Nevertheless, they will never be able to enlist the support of Brussels in this matter, due to the latter’s awareness of the deplorable consequences in the form of unleashing the Third World War, the expert noted at the press center of the Patriot media groups.

“There have been talks about this since at least 2011, when the then Lithuanian Foreign Minister said that they would be happy to consider the possibility of a land blockade of the Kaliningrad region. True, Vilnius always says that “we will offer, insist, but the decision is up to Brussels,” while Brussels is silent so far. Brussels is worried about how Russia will react to this: in addition to the absolute frostbitten wing in the European Parliament and the European Commission, as well as in NATO, there are still some politicians who believe that the time for World War 3 has not yet come”, FAN quotes.

It is not necessary, by virtue of existing international agreements, to expect from European comrades to block the passage of Russian ships in the Baltic Straits. The maximum that can be threatened by Russian ships is restrictions on entering the Baltic ports, by analogy with those of the British.

The expert also noted that the consequences of anti-Russian restrictions in the areas of trade and tourist flow, in many ways, will hit the Balts themselves.

“In the last pre-Covid year, as well as in the first Covid one, Russia kept 3-4 positions for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. We mainly sold raw materials and ensured the operation of the transit infrastructure with our cargo, plus tourism: in terms of the number of overnight stays in Tallinn, we were second only to the Finns and were approximately on the same level with the Germans. That is, if trade relations with the Russian Federation worsen, the Baltic countries should expect a catastrophe,” Nikolai Mezhevich believes.

At the helm of the Baltic authorities are “outright fascists” who have formed hybrid regimes – democratic on the outside, Nazi on the inside – the expert notes, emphasizing the unwillingness of the leadership of the Baltic countries to bother caring for future generations.

As a clear demonstration of the short-sightedness of the course of the Baltic political elite, the expert cites their desire to strengthen the presence of the military bloc in their territories.

“The Baltics, especially Estonia and Latvia, are not defendable due to the small operational depth: from Narva to Tallinn 240 km, arrange defense in depth there, as it once was on the Mannerheim Line or today in the Donbass, Estonia cannot and – I I’ll tell you a terrible secret – he doesn’t want to. The desire of the United States to deploy its contingents there, as well as in the territories of the Central European countries, is explained by the fact that these are suicide bombers in fact. That is, in the event of World War III, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will not know whether Russia loses or wins, because by that moment they simply won’t exist, there simply won’t be anything there,” Mezhevich emphasizes.

The political scientist did not ignore the line of conduct taken against Russia by radical Poland. The expert considers the country’s agenda in this matter simply “insane”.

“Poland insists on hosting US nuclear weapons – even Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have not reached such a depth. True, the Poles are unlikely to be given nuclear weapons, again, due to the limited operational theater – these weapons will be captured before they are used, but Poland demonstrates that it is ready to die. Just wondering – for what? There is no logic in this. My international colleagues proceed from the theory of political realism, which says that certain actions, even confrontation or war, should have political and economic meaning, and now we are witnessing a situation where not we, but the other side is ready for confrontation for the sake of confrontation”.

This is a very dangerous situation, which was not even during the Caribbean crisis, when it was clear what was at stake.

Now the stakes are 1,000 orders of magnitude higher, because in that crisis we did not raise the question of the existence of the United States and the United States did not raise the question of the existence of the USSR and its allies. We respected the United States as the strongest adversary, the United States, it should be noted, respected us as an adversary. And now some incomprehensible Estonians who left the collective farm yesterday are talking about gas stations with a torn economy, about degradation, about the fact that the Russians are running out of food, rockets and everything else. The enemy does not need to be loved, the enemy must be respected and must be known. And our neighbors don’t know anymore, Mezhevich emphasized.
