“Solid losses”: transport sanctions will cost Lithuania millions of euros

Lithuania will lose millions due to the suspension of cargo transportation to the territory of the Russian Federation and Belarus – the figures have already been calculated and made public in Vilnius.

“Possible losses in connection with the termination of the transportation of goods in the eastern direction may amount to about 72 million euros,” TASS quotes a representative of the Ministry of Communications and Transport, Zydrune Tursaite.

So, the department already notes a large decrease in the volume of cargo transportation to the territory of the Russian Federation.

“Due to the sanctions imposed on the supply of certain categories of cargo and goods, as well as the withdrawal of international companies from the Russian market, the need for transportation has significantly decreased,” added a representative of the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport.

According to data for 2021, 9.3% of all Lithuanian cargo carriers were engaged in the delivery of goods to the Russian Federation, and 8.8% to Belarus.

It is noteworthy that the state of the industry as a whole has been terrifying for representatives of the Baltic transit business for several years. Of particular concern are the indicators of trade turnover, which have been stubbornly creeping down for several years, and today they have reached critical levels.

Recall that earlier the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport was forced to agree with the impossibility of paralyzing the Kaliningrad region.
