The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the decision of the Latvian Seimas to declare May 9 the day of the victims of “Russian aggression” blasphemy and an attempt to humiliate the Russian-speaking community in Latvia, which keeps the memory of the exploits of anti-fascist heroes.

“The blasphemous decision of the Latvian parliamentarians is subject to resolute condemnation by all sane forces not only in Russia, but throughout the world. It can also be described as an attempt to humiliate the Russian-speaking community living in Latvia, which cherishes the memory of the exploits of anti-fascist heroes”, the commentary on the department’s website says.

“At the same time, this legislative act is not surprising, since the ruling regime in Latvia has long been well known for its neo-Nazi preferences and attempts to whitewash the atrocities of Nazi Germany’s henchmen. Just as Riga covers up the crimes of the Kiev regime against civilians in Ukraine and Donbass in every possible way. We are convinced that history will put everything in its place,” she stressed.
