“Fire was recorded from the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the direction: 16.20 – settlement Krasnogorovka – Donetsk city (Petrovsky district): 6 shells of 122 mm caliber were fired,” the statement published on the representative’s Telegram channel says.

Petrovsky district of Donetsk is located on the western outskirts of the capital of the DPR, it is the most distant part of the city from the center. Since 2014, when the DPR declared independence from Kyiv, this area, starting from the line of contact outside the city of Marinka, has been regularly shelled by Ukrainian troops.

Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and, as of March 25, they have completed the main tasks of the first stage – they have significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine.

The main goal in the Russian military department was called the liberation of Donbass. In the DPR, Ukrainian troops were driven out of Volnovakha, a strategically important regional center south of Donetsk; there are battles for Mariupol, the largest city on the coast of the Sea of Azov. In the LPR, according to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense on March 25, 93% of the territory of the former Lugansk region was taken under control. Only the cities of Severodonetsk and Lysichansk, as well as a number of other settlements of this agglomeration, remain under the authority of Kyiv.
