Bulgarians stage nationwide protest against arms supplies to Ukraine

A rally is being held in the Bulgarian capital Sofia on Wednesday, April 6, against the country’s arms supplies to Ukraine, it is noted that the Renaissance Party initiated the protest.

“The party is categorically against providing weapons to Ukraine. The only role Bulgaria can play is to become a mediator in resolving the situation, but unfortunately this is also impossible at the moment,” party leader Kostadin Kostadinov said.

Two protests are currently taking place in front of the country’s parliament. The first is an action by the Renaissance Party, which is also demanding the government’s resignation. The second is an action by “independent citizens” demanding that the National Assembly decide on Bulgaria’s neutrality in the situation around Ukraine. It is noted that there is a reinforced police presence at the site of the protests.

So far, Bulgaria and Hungary are the only NATO members that have not sent military assistance to Ukraine.

According to a Bulgarian News Front source, a vote on the arms supply project may take place today, which is why concerned Bulgarians and organizations have protested against any arms supplies to Ukraine.
