Another mine found in the Black Sea – Turkish Defence Ministry

A mine-like object found near Kefken has been identified as a mine by a patrol plane.

Earlier, the Turkish Defence Ministry reported the discovery of a mine off the coast of Igneada (west coast of the Black Sea) near the border with Bulgaria. Russia’s FSB earlier said that the Ukrainian military had planted around 420 mines on the approaches to the ports of Odessa, Ochakov, Chernomorsk and Yuzhnyy after Russia launched a special operation.

The service did not rule out the possibility of the snapped mines drifting into the Bosphorus strait and further to the seas of the Mediterranean basin due to the currents. The Turkish navy asked ships to monitor the drifting mines after a report from Russia’s FSB, Hürriyet newspaper reported.

“A mine-like object found near Kefken (an island near the Turkish Black Sea coast, near Kandir ila Kocaeli) has been identified as a mine by our patrol aircraft. The area is guarded. Submarine teams (SAS) of the naval command are intervening in the mines”, – the statement reads.
