Georgia will not impose economic sanctions against Russia – prime minister

Georgia’s prime minister said they would not impose economic sanctions against Russia and would not refuse to export mineral and fresh water, ferroalloys, wine and agricultural products

Irakli Garibashvili and representatives of the ruling party have repeatedly said that individual sanctions against Russia will only hit the Georgian population.

“There will be no introduction of economic sanctions by Georgia against Russia. We, our team, proceed from the national interests of our country”, –  the Georgian prime minister said.

Russia remains one of Georgia’s biggest trade partners. In 2021, the countries traded over $1.6 billion, which is a 23.2% increase compared to 2020. At the same time, exports from Russia to Georgia increased by 38.3%, and imports from Georgia to Russia increased by 15.8%.
