“The guys (neighbours) offered to go together to get water, we get it at a standpipe in the garages behind the Seventh microdistrict (in the northern part of the city). I didn’t want to – there was still water for another day”, – said a resident of Rubizhne named Yury.
When the comrades went to fetch water and brought it into the house, the shelling started.
“We are standing, talking… We saw a flash… A rustling in the air (like during Grad shelling), a deafening crack – and a sharp pain. Three people were standing with me – friends, neighbours. They were killed and I was thrown somewhere. My legs are bruised, my arm. My mouth tasted of dust and burning”, – the victim said.
According to him, Russian soldiers soon arrived and rendered first aid.
“Chechen fighters. Tell them thank you. They helped me quickly – they gave me an injection, a bandage,” specified Yury. The wounded man was then taken to Starobelsk, where he was put in hospital and splinters removed. “Large, as big as a cigarette packet. The wound had to be stitched up”, – he said.
