Russia has stopped gas supplies to Latvia. Since April 1, fuel has not been delivered through the pipeline from the Russian Federation to the Baltic republics.
This was announced by the Latvian operator of the gas transmission system and the Inčukalns underground gas storage Conexus Baltic Grid. The schedule on the operator’s website indicates that deliveries are not scheduled for the coming days. At the same time, in March they were quite stable and reached 55 gigawatt-hours per day. In total last month Latvia received 874 gigawatt-hours of gas from Russia.
Now Latvia and other Baltic countries have switched to gas from the Inčukalns underground gas storage. It is 34% full and will last for a while. However, what will happen next, the operator does not comment.
Gas is supplied to Latvia by Latvijas gāze, which purchases fuel from Gazprom under a long-term contract. If it does not convert settlements on transactions into rubles, then the country runs the risk of being left without energy resources.
