Russia to investigate nationalist attack on Ukrainian priest

Chairman of Russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has instructed to investigate the nationalists’ attack on an Orthodox priest right in a church in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine, according to the Russian Investigative Committee’s Telegram channel



“The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia has instructed the central apparatus to investigate the circumstances of violence against a priest of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine… In accordance with the order of the head of the agency, the investigation is taking measures to identify persons involved in committing this crime, and their actions will be legally assessed”, –  the report said.

Armed Ukrainian nationalists reportedly forcibly removed a priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate from the church, effectively kidnapping him. It added that parishioners were also injured in the incident and that the crime was committed by representatives of Ukraine’s territorial defence in Cherkasy Region.
