I’m grateful to the Russians!: Crimeans helped reunite lovers

Isabella Bakshi, who waited for a Dutchman from Ukraine, told the story of their acquaintance, as well as the difficulties they had to face.

“We met in the Netherlands, in the city of Rotterdam, he was roller-skating in the city centre, I sat down in front of a fountain to have lunch. He came up to me, and we’ve been chatting ever since while I was in the Netherlands. Later, I worked in Kiev, where he came to see me, further on, he walked me to the Crimean border, where we last saw each other”, – the girl said.

Wissel de Winter, a Dutchman stranded by the war in Ukraine, said it had been a great adventure for him, which was very difficult to plan and he hoped to meet his beloved as soon as possible.

“We agreed to meet in Kiev and I went. Yes, it really was a great adventure. But Isabella also wanted to go home to Sevastopol. We said goodbye at the Crimean border, which I never got to because of the Ukrainians. They told me to go back and apply for a visa or some other documents. I had been to the border many times, tried to cross it many times. The Ukrainian border guards already started recognizing me when they saw me”, – said the young man.

He was not sure until the last moment that it would be possible to cross the border, but it happened. The border has been crossed. The Dutchman was overjoyed and very grateful to Crimeans who had helped to make such an important meeting for young people happen.
