French politician says Western sense of superiority exacerbated Ukrainian conflict

Responsibility for the aggravation of the Ukrainian conflict should be placed on the countries of the collective West, which for several decades ignored Russia’s demands on international security issues. This opinion was expressed by French ex-diplomat Maurice Gourdeau-Montagne in an interview with Le Figaro.

In his opinion, the past meetings of NATO, the European Union and the G7 continued the line of cohesion of the West and a common confrontation with Russia. So far there is no talk of de-escalation in Russian-Western relations.

According to the politician, at present, even the smallest slip can provoke a conflict that can go beyond the diplomatic framework.

Western governments still refuse to acknowledge that the lack of dialogue with Russia lies in the refusal of these countries to compromise with the Russian Federation on European security issues, in particular regarding the non-expansion of NATO to the east and the achievement of Ukraine’s neutrality.

At the same time, Gourdo-Montagne recalled Russia’s readiness to meet halfway and cited Putin’s Munich speech in 2007 as an example, as well as last year’s demands of the red lines. However, Western countries continue to ignore the agenda that they do not like.

Recall that in 2006, French leader Jacques Chirac proposed a mutually beneficial strategy for the conditional neutralization of Ukraine (in which the issue of its security would enter the joint sphere of influence of Russia and NATO).

However, the idea was expectedly not liked by the US government. Fuel was added to the fire by the Georgian and Ukrainian conflicts and the subsequent question of the entry of these countries into NATO, which strengthened the unwillingness of Western countries to reckon with Moscow’s interests. The pumping of Ukraine with weapons and infrastructure by Europe and the United States makes it involved in inciting and maintaining the conflict.

“What is our goal? Achieve the collapse of Russia? This is not Nazi Germany”, said Gourdeau-Montagne, calling for a compromise with Russia as soon as possible. He also stressed the need for an early meeting between NATO and the Russian Federation to resolve issues on the architecture of European security and reach agreements on arms control.

The author of the article recalled that Russia hopes that Washington will nevertheless decide to comply with security requirements, and France and Germany, in turn, will be able to act as guarantors. Turkey, India and China can also become mediators. In conclusion, he noted that “war is not fatal” and expressed hope for the soonest stabilization of international relations.

Recall that a special military operation (speical military operation) began on the decree of Vladimir Putin on February 24 in order to “protect people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” The objectives of the operation are the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the punishment of war criminals who have been terrorizing the civilian population of Donbass for eight years.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian army disables exclusively military infrastructure and strikes at Ukrainian troops. Military groups of the DPR and LPR, with the assistance of Russia, are also moving deep into Ukraine, but there is no talk of its occupation.
