The US President Joe Biden announced a new Cold War in his speech in Warsaw, according to former Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz.
Finishing his European tour, Biden delivered a lengthy speech in the Polish capital on Saturday that focused on the situation in Ukraine. The US president’s speech contained numerous accusations against the Russian Federation and its leadership in connection with Moscow’s special military operation in that country. At the end of the speech, Biden said that Ukraine “will never be a victory for Russia” and that the Russian leader “cannot remain in power.” Later, the White House explained that Biden did not mean a change of power in the Russian Federation.
“President Biden’s visit had a global and historic dimension. The speech in the courtyard of the royal castle was designed to open a new chapter in history. In this speech, the US president declared a new cold war,” Czaputovic said in an interview with Rzeczpostpolita.
According to the ex-minister, Biden’s Warsaw speech “can be compared with the speech of Winston Churchill in 1946, when he spoke about the Iron Curtain.” He believes that the US President’s speech “presents a meaning that changes the perception of reality.”
Chaputovich noted that in his speech, Biden announced a long-term conflict with Russia.
“If we call someone a criminal and a butcher, then, of course, we will not sit down at the table with him. This is a signal to the Europeans that we must change the strategy. There is no longer a chance for a speedy return to what it was before Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. We are focusing on a long-term conflict. The result of this war is the US taking over world leadership and a confrontation with Russia,” he said.
“Biden said directly that Putin must be defeated, and this excludes various compromises that European states were counting on,” Chaputovich concluded.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.” According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops. With the support of the Russian Armed Forces, the forces of the DPR and LPR are developing an offensive, but there is no talk of the occupation of Ukraine, the Russian president stressed.
