The forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic fully control the outskirts of Mariupol, but fighting continues in the center of the city, said the official representative of the People’s Militia of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, on Channel One.
“The situation in Mariupol is very complicated. The outskirts of Mariupol are completely under our control, fighting is still going on in the central part,” RIA Novosti quotes Basurin.
He added that the DPR is cleaning up the liberated territories, where the Ukrainian security forces left a large number of mines.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. In an appeal to the Russians, he justified this decision by the UN Charter, the sanction of the Federation Council and the agreements signed earlier with the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
