Russian Vice Premier says Europe will not be able to replace Russian gas

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with journalists that Europe will not be able to replace Russian gas in the next five years.

“Judge for yourself: as for the gas industry, we supply about 200 billion cubic meters of gas while Europe consumes 500 billion cubic meters – almost 60 percent of exports. There is definitely nothing to replace this in one year, or in three, or in five years”, Novak said.

He added that “everything is possible in this life,” but Europe’s complete rejection of Russian supplies is “some kind of apocalyptic scenario.”

Recall that on February 24, Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine. In his statement, the President stressed that the NVO is aimed at the denazification and demilitarization of the country. In turn, Ukraine began to ask the West for support, both military and in the form of sanctions against Russia.

Some brands have announced the termination of work in the Russian Federation. The United States refused to purchase Russian hydrocarbons, and Britain wants to make such a decision. In the meantime, the EU was talking about the need to reduce dependence on energy supplies from Russia.
