Media: U.S. to make a plan in case Russia uses nuclear weapons

The New York Times, citing sources, claims that the White House has formed a team of officials to develop scenarios for the response of Washington and its allies in the event that Moscow uses nuclear weapons. At the same time, officials from the group assess such a probability of a development of events as small.

According to officials, the newspaper writes, the so-called “Tiger” group is studying responses to a hypothetical Russian attack on convoys with weapons and aid destined for Ukraine on the territory of NATO countries. Officials are also trying to determine how Washington should respond to the “spread” of hostilities into neighboring countries, including Moldova and Georgia, and how to prepare European countries for an influx of Ukrainian refugees.

The document on the creation of the group was signed by Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan four days after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine. It is noted that the “Tiger” has already played a “central role” in the development of “manuals” for imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation, increasing the number of troops in NATO countries and arming Ukrainian troops. However, officials believe that the likelihood of Russia using nuclear weapons is low.
