Immediate abandonment of Russian gas and oil is impossible, said Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.
“My goal is not to jeopardize the security of supply. An immediate withdrawal of Russian gas is not possible. I see the same with crude oil, because the message is wrong. I can imagine that the discussion will become more heated, but I take a sustained position here. We cannot endanger another with one measure,” Nehammer told the Kleine Zeitung newspaper.
A number of Western countries have introduced new sanctions against the Russian Federation because of Ukraine. Putin also said that the United States and the European Union had effectively defaulted on their obligations to Russia, freezing its foreign exchange reserves. He added that current events draw a line under the global dominance of the West in both politics and economics.
