Russia does not intend to continue talks with Japan

Russia has refused to negotiate a peace treaty with Japan because of its unfriendly actions seeking to damage the interests of our country

This is reportedly related to the situation in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“All responsibility for the damage to Russian-Japanese interaction” lies on Tokyo, which deliberately chose “an anti-Russian course instead of developing mutually beneficial cooperation and good neighbourliness”, –  the ministry stressed.

Russia is halting visa-free travels for Japanese citizens to the Southern Kuril Islands, withdrawing from a dialogue on setting up joint economic activities there.

And it is also blocking the extension of Japan’s status as a sectoral dialogue partner of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization.
