A soldier who fled from Poland was found hanged in Minsk

A Polish soldier, Emil Chechko, who fled to Belarus, was found hanged at his place of residence in Minsk, the Belarusian Investigative Committee said on his Telegram channel.

The department is considering all possible versions of what happened, including the violent nature of death.

In November 2021, a large group of refugees who were in Belarus approached the border with Poland. The migrants asked to be allowed into the EU. European countries blamed Minsk for the crisis, which denies any involvement in the increased flow of refugees.

A soldier of the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division of the Polish Armed Forces Emil Chechko defected to the Belarusian side on December 16, 2021 and asked for asylum in Belarus because of his disagreement with Poland’s tough policy towards migrants. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus accepted for consideration an application for granting him refugee status.

Earlier, Emil Chechko said that a real genocide of migrants took place on the Belarusian-Polish border.
