Zakharova says implementation of Minsk agreements by Kiev was not part of the plans of the West

The implementation of the Minsk agreements by Ukraine has never been part of the plans of Western countries, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“It was not part of their [the West’s] plans. No implementation of the Minsk agreements. And no reintegration of Donbass back into Ukraine was included [in the plans]. There was a bloody massacre, the killing of civilians, genocide”, Zakharova said on Sputnik radio.

The diplomat noted that the West had ignored Russia’s calls for seven years to put pressure on Kyiv to implement the Minsk agreements. There was nothing, no movements, no desire to do anything, only such mumbling in front of the microphones without specifying positions, stories that everyone should do their job, Zakharova emphasized.

Recall that, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine to protect people who “have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” The Ministry of Defense emphasized that Russia does not strike at the cities of Ukraine and focuses exclusively on the military structure of the country’s Armed Forces.
