Russian diplomat Zakharova says Council of Europe has become a platform for NATO’s Russophobic campaigns

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, commented on the country’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe and explained why this structure does not matter to the Russian Federation.

Her words are reported by the Izvestia publication, referring to the diplomat’s conversation with Sputnik radio. Zakharova noted that the Council of Europe has long been a propaganda tool for NATO:

“This organization has become just a tool of NATO propaganda, I didn’t make a mistake now.”

She stressed that the Council of Europe should form the agenda through the mechanisms of the North Atlantic Alliance. Against this background, the efficiency of the CE was zero. It has become a platform for various campaigns, often aimed at implementing Russophobic policies.

Earlier, Russia announced its decision to leave the Council of Europe. Participation in it does not make any sense for the state, especially considering the Russophobic sentiments of the Council of Europe.
