Russia is ceasing the war that the Kyiv regime waged for eight years against the population of Donbass, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba asked him to convey a message to Lavrov about the need for a political settlement around Ukraine.
“(The Iranian Foreign Minister) conveyed the wishes of Mr. Kuleba that it is necessary to stop the war as soon as possible. I can assure you that this is exactly what we are doing. We are stopping the war that the Kyiv regime has waged against the population of Donbass for at least eight years. This war should cease, especially now,” the head of Russian diplomacy said.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces only strike at military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops. With the support of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the DPR and LPR groups are developing an offensive. But there is no talk of the occupation of Ukraine, the President of Russia stressed.
