Most foreign media imposes on their audience a one-sided perception of events on the territory of Ukraine, forgetting about the principles of freedom of speech and pluralism of opinions, said Anatoly Antonov, Russian Ambassador to the United States.
“We have to admit that the vast majority of Western media imposes on their audience an extremely one-sided perception of events in Ukraine. Reports and materials are published solely aimed at presenting Russia as an aggressor. No one remembers any freedom of speech and pluralism of opinions here, contrary to the US Constitution. A good example is the blocking of broadcasts of Russian state media on YouTube,” the diplomat said in an interview with Newsweek.
Antonov noted that American TV channels did not show a single report about the barbaric attack by the Ukrainian military, which fired a Tochka-U tactical missile with a cluster warhead on March 14 at a residential area in Donetsk. At the same time, the Western media raised a universal cry about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces to eliminate foreign mercenaries who arrived on Ukrainian territory to kill Russians, he added.
“Currently, the only threat to civilians in Ukraine comes from the armed formations of Ukrainian nationalists. They place tanks and artillery near kindergartens and schools, equip firing positions on the roofs of houses, cover themselves with women and children in order to provoke as many civilian casualties as possible”, said the Russian ambassador to the United States.
The diplomat expressed hope that the American media “will stop inciting Russophobia and will present their assessments in an impartial manner.”
