French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that a new package of sanctions against Russia would be adopted on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reported.
“The new package of sanctions will be approved this morning. Such a strong package of sanctions has never been adopted in the history of the European Union. This is a historic decision,” the minister said before the summit of the heads of the Ministries of Finance of the EU countries in Brussels.
According to Le Maire, most of the Russian financial system will be affected by sanctions restrictions. Also, the head of the French Ministry of Finance noted that a ban on the export of luxury goods from Russia will be introduced.
As News Front previously reported, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order banning energy imports from Russia and new investment in the Russian energy sector. A number of Western countries have also introduced various sanctions restrictions against the Russian Federation against the backdrop of a special military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine.
Recall that on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine to protect people who “for eight years have been subjected to bullying, genocide by the Kiev regime.”
