The largest reservoir of the Crimean peninsula was filled with water by 94.7%, the press service of the department of urban economy of the government of Sevastopol reported.
“The availability of water in the Chernorechensk reservoir as of March 14 is 60 million 857 thousand cubic meters, the maximum volume is 64.2 million cubic meters, which guarantees a stable water supply to consumers in the city of Sevastopol not only during 2022, but also in 2023,” the department said, reports RIA Novosti.
The Chernorechensk reservoir was built to supply Sevastopol in 1956. Previously, Ukraine provided up to 85% of the needs of the Crimean peninsula in fresh water through the North Crimean Canal coming from the Dnieper. However, after the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation, the Kiev authorities unilaterally stopped the water supply.
It was possible to unblock the channel as a result of a special operation that has been carried out on the territory of Ukraine since February 24. Recall that at the end of February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the decision to launch a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine to protect people who “for eight years have been subjected to bullying, genocide by the Kiev regime.”
