German authorities have asked Poland to suspend sending trains with Ukrainian refugees because the country cannot accept so many people
This was said by Poland’s Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration Pawel Schaefernacker on the air of TVN24, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
“Last night we were contacted by the German Interior Ministry and we were asked if we could suspend the special trains going to Germany, because a bottleneck has already formed there … [that is], 28,000 people left Warsaw, Krakow and Katowice in three days by special trains. And we have 1.5 million people”, – Schaefernacker said.
He stressed that no other country in the European Union was ready to receive such a large number of refugees. Nevertheless, thanks to the work of volunteers and NGOs, the Polish authorities are able to accommodate people.
According to some reports, over 1.7 million people arrived in Poland from Ukraine on 24 February.
