Sanctions against Russia hinder diplomatic settlement process – Chinese Foreign Ministry

Beijing does not approve of unilateral sanctions against Russia, since their application only hinders the process of political settlement of the situation, the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, RIA Novosti reports.

The Foreign Ministry noted that China does not approve of the use of sanctions as a way to solve problems, and even more so opposes unilateral sanctions that do not have an international legal basis.

“Practice has shown that sanctions will not only not solve problems, but will also create new problems, not only lead to a losing situation in the economy for both or many sides, but also hinder the process of political settlement,” the Foreign Ministry stressed.

As News Front previously reported, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order banning energy imports from Russia and new investment in the Russian energy sector. A number of Western countries have also introduced various sanctions restrictions against the Russian Federation against the backdrop of a special military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine.

Member of the European Parliament Thierry Mariani stressed that a hypothetical EU rejection of Russian energy resources could lead to a catastrophic situation. Martin Wansleben, director general of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), said that the German economy would face serious consequences if further sanctions against Russia are imposed, including a ban on natural gas imports.
