The Western world is well aware that sanctions against Russia will hurt their authors. However, the European Union has not thought about its future.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that many countries did not want to impose restrictive measures against the Russian Federation. This is reported by the Izvestia publication, referring to the politician’s speech at the opening of a diplomatic forum in Antalya, Turkey.
“No one wanted to impose these sanctions. These sanctions will cost the whole world dearly, including those countries that imposed them,” Stoltenberg admitted.
It’s already good that at least awareness of the problem comes. True, it has not yet been confirmed by real actions. Europe blindly follows the instructions of the United States, forgetting that Russia is closer to it. Sanctions against it mean a blow to their own economy: a rise in the price of energy, the loss of a sales market, a rise in the price of wheat, fertilizers, and much more. The Russian Federation has shown more than once in its history that it can cope with difficult times, but what the EU will do is a question.
