Martin Wansleben, director general of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the German economy would face serious consequences if further sanctions against Russia are imposed, including a ban on natural gas imports.
“Based on specific information from companies, we know that the impact [of sanctions] on the German economy in the coming months should not be underestimated. This concerns not only the further rise in energy prices, but also disruptions in supply chains, which have a wide impact on the economy,” Wansleben said in an interview with the Rheinische Post newspaper.
According to him, if Germany decides to stop importing gas or oil from Russia, this will have a huge impact on our industry, as well as on private households. The head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed that more and more medium-sized industrial enterprises at such prices will not be able to afford production in Germany.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of Germany Robert Habek said that Berlin was allegedly ready to stop the supply of Russian energy resources – oil, gas and coal.
