Facebook and Instagram allow calls for violence against the Russian Armed Forces

The American company Meta allowed calls for violence on social networks Facebook and Instagram against the Russian military against the backdrop of a special operation to denazify Ukraine.

“We have temporarily allowed forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules, including violent rhetoric such as “death to the Russian invaders.” We will not allow calls for violence against Russian civilians,” Meta spokesman Andy Stone wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, Reuters reported that calls for violence against Russians are allowed when the message explicitly refers to a military operation in Ukraine. Changes in company policy apply to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and Estonia.

Federation Council Vice Speaker Konstantin Kosachev called for a ban on Facebook and Instagram in Russia after Meta allowed users to call for violence against Russians.

Recall that on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the decision to launch a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine to protect people who “for eight years have been subjected to bullying, genocide by the Kiev regime.” The Russian leader stressed that Moscow has no bad intentions towards neighboring countries and all actions of the Russian Federation arise solely in response to unfriendly measures against it.
