Chinese Foreign Ministry: Taiwan will return to the arms of the motherland

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a briefing that Taiwan remains an integral part of the PRC.

His words are reported by Sputnik. The diplomat noted that the island “eventually will return to the arms of the motherland.” Wang Yi also commented on the role of the United States in the current situation.

He noted that in order to contain China, certain forces are encouraging Taiwan. In this way, they violate the foundations of international relations and undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. In addition, it is contrary to the “One China” principle.

Taiwan’s relations with the rest of the PRC deteriorated in 1949 after the defeat of the Kuomintang force in the civil war. From the late 1980s until 2000, relations between the island and China began to improve, but then a new round of disagreements began. The Americans vehemently support the island’s authorities in their quest for independence, but the point is not their commitment to “democracy”, but the desire to harm Beijing.
