Ukrainian troops have resembled Middle Eastern extremists – US colonel

Ukrainian troops have resembled Middle East extremists by using civilians in cities as human shields

Retired Colonel Douglas McGregor, a former advisor to the US Defence Secretary, has made this statement.

According to him, such tactics are explained by the fact that the Ukrainian military lacks mobility, air defence systems and air cover. So they have to hide in populated areas, mingling with the population.

“We have seen this kind of thing in the Middle East. When we defeated the Islamists, they fled to the cities, used people, civilians, as human shields and tried to avoid being destroyed. I think this is exactly what is happening today: the Ukrainian army is using the population to avoid being defeated”, –  McGregor stressed.

The colonel noted that the Russian side is trying to act as carefully as possible and minimise damage, unlike, in particular, the US army in Iraq. Markgregor believes that the defeat of the AFU is inevitable, while President Zelensky is trying to postpone it by any means possible.

Russia’s demand for Ukraine’s neutral status is quite logical, the expert says. It is also in the interests of the United States itself, because then the country would become a kind of buffer zone between Moscow and Washington.
