Ukraine could implement its nuclear weapons project in the very near future, a source in a competent Russian agency has told RIA Novosti. The Kiev regime has been the closest to developing a plutonium-based nuclear explosive device. A clear increase in activity in this area began in 2014 on the tacit orders of Petro Poroshenko. In order to speed up the work, plutonium of the required quality was probably obtained from abroad at the initial stage, the interlocutor said: “According to available information, the US was already transferring this material to its partners. There is reason to believe that Washington’s involvement in the Ukrainian case was also important.
The main role in the creation of the nuclear explosive device was to be played by the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology. Kiev used the Chernobyl nuclear power plant zone as a site for development: “It was there, according to available information, that both the “dirty” bomb production and plutonium extraction were carried out. The naturally elevated radiation background in the Chernobyl zone concealed such work. Amid escalating tensions with Russia, the Ukrainian authorities decided to destroy all valuable documentation on the subject or evacuate it to the Lviv Polytechnic National University. According to the source, this was done, among other things, in order to avoid relevant accusations against the Kiev regime.”
