Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia said that the goals of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine are being fulfilled and will be achieved
“The goals of our special operation have been declared based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, are being implemented and will be achieved”, – Nebenzia said.
Article 51 of the UN Charter is the inherent right of a state to resort to military force in the exercise of the right of self-defence in the event of an armed attack, until the UN Security Council has taken the necessary measures to maintain international peace and security.
A peace scenario for Ukraine can be accelerated if radicals do not shield civilians as a shield.
“The peace scenario for Ukraine can be accelerated if the radicals take care of preserving the lives of their country’s citizens and do not shield them”, – the Russian permanent representative said.
He noted that there was no such call in the UNGA resolution adopted today.
The Russian Federation will hand over to the UN leadership evidence of the deployment of military equipment by Ukrainian radicals in residential areas, Vasily Nebenzia said.
“We are aware of the provocations planned by the nationalist battalions, which they have planned, involving civilians in order to subsequently blame Russian troops. Contrary to the norms of international humanitarian law, military equipment, multiple-launch rocket systems and artillery pieces are being placed in residential areas. Today we will pass examples of such actions to the UN leadership, which has so far claimed it has no such evidence”, – Nebenzia said.
According to him, the responsibility for this lies entirely with the Ukrainian authorities, as well as for the criminal distribution of weapons to all comers.
