Brazilian Bolsonaro supports Putin’s decision to carry out a denazification operation in Ukraine

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said that the country will not impose sanctions against Russia, as it does not condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin for his decision to conduct a special operation on denazification and demilitarization on the territory of Ukraine.

“No sanctions or condemnation of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. I want to clarify that Brazil votes independently and without being tied to any power,” Bolsonaro said during a press conference, TASS reports.

Thus, the Brazilian president commented on the country’s position when voting at the UN on the current situation in Ukraine. Bolsonaro stressed that Brazil will adhere to an independent position and be guided by national interests.

“I do not think that this conflict will drag on, if only because the parties have different military capabilities. We naturally hope that NATO countries will not help exacerbate this problem, which, in my understanding, must be resolved,” Bolsonaro concluded.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to launch a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine to protect people who “have been subjected to harassment and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” One of the main goals of the special operation is the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine.
