The day before, after Russia recognised the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, the German Federal Network Agency terminated the certification of Nord Stream 2 as the document under which the procedure was carried out was withdrawn by the German government.
The decision was taken due to the new “state of affairs and legal situation”, including the developments in eastern Ukraine, a representative of the German Ministry of Economics said in a briefing on Wednesday. In order to start the certification procedure anew, the German Ministry of Economics has to prepare a new certificate on national security of energy supply, on the basis of which the regulator, the Federal Network Agency, will make a decision.
